1 - Repair Office

  1. Go to Control Panel.

    • In Windows 8, on the Start screen, type Control Panel, and select Control Panel in the search results.

    • In Windows 7 or Windows Vista, choose Start > Control Panel.

  2. Choose Programs > Programs and Features.

  3. Choose the latest version of Office, and then choose Change.

  4. Choose Online Repair, and then choose Repair.

2 - Remove and reinstall Office

  1. Click this Fix it.

  2. When prompted by your browser, choose Open.

Note   If the file doesn’t open, choose Save > Open Folder, then double-click the file (it should start with "O15CTRRemove") to run the Fix it tool.

  3. After the Fix it tool is done, install Office again.

    • If you’re a home user, sign in to your My Account page, and choose Install.

    • If you’re a business user, sign in to the Office 365 portal and choose Install.

3 - Temporarily turn off antivirus software

If you need information about how to turn off your antivirus software, check your antivirus manufacturer's website. Uninstalling your antivirus software may also help. Don't forget to reinstall it after Office is finished installing!

Tip   Not sure which antivirus software you have? Use the Control Panel in Windows 8, Windows 7, or Windows Vista to find the name of the antivirus software installed on your device.

4 - Temporarily turn off the firewall

Turn off Windows Firewall in Windows 8 or Windows 7, or Windows Vista. If you're using a firewall from another manufacturer, visit the manufacturer's website for information about how to temporarily disable the firewall.
