The Enterprise Resource Outline Code1 through Enterprise Resource Outline Code29 custom fields contain an alphanumeric code that is defined to represent a flat list or hierarchical structure of resources (for example, skill codes or job codes). Outline codes are custom tags for resources that share traits; they can be used to group resources in a variety of ways. Enterprise Resource Outline Codes are defined by your project management administrator or other user with administrative permissions. These fields are then made available to all users throughout the enterprise.

There are several categories of Enterprise Resource Outline Code1-29 fields.

Data Type    Outline code

Enterprise Resource Outline Code1-29 (resource fields)

Entry Type    Calculated or Entered

How Calculated    Depending on how it was customized, an Enterprise Resource Outline Code field might be defined with formulas or other conditions to display specific results.

Best Uses    Add any defined and available Enterprise Resource Outline Code to a resource view. You can also group, filter, and sort resources by the outline code, which might represent the skill codes, job codes, or cost accounting codes. You can see a list of available enterprise custom resource fields in the Resource Information dialog box.

Example    You are the project management administrator, and you've received requests from resource managers for a function in the project plan that provides organizational information about resources. Using the checked-out enterprise global template, you define Enterprise Resource Outline Code1 field for this purpose. You then check the enterprise global template in again to make the new field available to all users.

You are a resource manager, and you see that there is a new Enterprise Resource Outline Code field available: "Organization" is defined for the Enterprise Resource Outline Code1 field. You add this field to the Resource Sheet and use it to see resources grouped according to the organizational breakdown structure, and to obtain summarized information based on this structure.

Remarks    Only someone with permission to save the enterprise global template (for example, the project management administrator) can check out and edit items in the enterprise global template. All users throughout the enterprise can then view Enterprise fields that have been defined and checked in.
