EmailToOneNote feature may not work due to organization policies

Last Updated: August 3, 2018

For some Office 365 accounts, the EmailToOneNote feature may not work due to organization policies enforced by their tenant admins on the Office 365 tenant.

When this occurs, users may receive an email from the OneNote Team with an error message:

Oops! Something went wrong.

You sent an email to your notebook using me@onenote with the subject line "xxx" but we couldn't save it. Please send the message again, and we'll do our best to make sure the email gets into your notebook this time.

These are the policies that might be configured on the Office 365 tenants by the tenant admins to control access to SharePoint and OneDrive resources:

If you are getting this error email, you may want to try out our other features to save your email to your notebook like:

  • OneNote Clipper

  • Send To OneNote app that you can get in the Microsoft Store

  • Try using our OneNote APIs in Microsoft Graph to save your email to OneNote. You can watch this demo for more information on how to do this.
