Crop a picture in OneNote 2016 for Windows

After you insert a picture into your notes, you might realize that it shows more than you want or need. For example, a photo you’ve taken with your cell phone might show too much background. Rather than trimming the picture, which you can’t do in OneNote 2016, you can take a screen clipping of the image to capture just the part that you want to keep.

  1. After inserting the picture you want to crop, click in a blank area of the page to make sure that the picture isn’t selected.

  2. Press the Windows logo key+Shift+S to start a screen clipping.

  3. When the screen dims, drag a selection over just the part of the image that you want to keep.

Your screen clipping is sent immediately to your clipboard so that you can paste it into any application, including OneNote.

  4. On any page in your notes, click where you want the screen clipping to appear, and then press Ctrl+V to paste it.

  5. If the result looks good to you, you can delete the original picture from your notes.
