Creating a new account in SharePoint Workspace 2010

The first time you start up Microsoft SharePoint Workspace, the Account Configuration Wizard opens and displays a welcome screen. The way you complete the wizard depends on whether you have access to an Account Configuration Code. If you do not, you can still create an account using an e-mail address. However, this account will not be governed by management policies that may be required at your workplace. Note that you can easily apply an Account Configuration Code later to an account created using an e-mail address.

Creating a new account using an e-mail address

Create an account using an e-mail address only if you do not have access to an Account Configuration Code.

  1. If you need to open the Account Configuration Wizard, click the SharePoint Workspace icon in the Windows System Tray, and then click New Account.

  2. Click Create a new account and then click Next.

    If you want to use an account you already have on another computer instead of creating a new account, click Restore an existing account. See Use your account on another computer for more information.

  3. Click Create the account using your e-mail address.

  4. Enter a name for the account and a valid e-mail address.

    The name you enter is the contact identity (display name) by which people will recognize you. You can change the name later in your account preferences.

    Note   You cannot use the following characters in an account name: {}=/;

    The e-mail address you enter will display as a link on your contact card.

  5. Strongly recommended: Check Allow me to recover my account later (enabled by default). Enabling this option will allow SharePoint Workspace to automatically adjust your account log-in credentials if an administrator changes your Windows log-in credentials. If this option is disabled and your Windows log-in credentials change, you may be unable to access your account.

  6. Click Finish.
