Create a subpage in OneNote 2016 for Mac

Subpages are a good way to group and organize related notes in OneNote for Mac. For example, if you’ve taken lecture notes, you can create one main page for the subject, and split the weekly lecture notes to subpages.

Create a subpage

Before you can create a subpage, you’ll need at least one page in your notebook. To add a page, click Add Page in the page tab view on the right.

To create a new subpage:

  1. Control-click the page tab where you want to create the subpage.

  2. Click New Subpage Below.

Move a subpage

If you want to move a subpage to another location in your notebook, do one of the following:

  1. To move the subpage to a level down, control-click the page tab, and click Make Subpage.

  2. To move the subpage to a level up or to make it a main page, control-click the page tab, and click Promote Subpage.

Tip: To quickly move a subpage to different level or location, drag the subpage tab up or down in the page tab view.

Collapse or expand the page tab view

If you have a lot of pages and subpages in your notebook, using the compact page tab view can help you manage your notes more easily.

  1. To collapse the page tab view, click Collapse the page tab view. .

  2. To expand the page tab view, click Expand the page tab view. .

Delete a subpage

  1. To delete a subpage, control-click the subpage tab you want to delete, and click Delete.
