Create a scorecard hierarchy, or change KPI position in a hierarchy

Note: Before you begin, make sure that you have created Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), and added those KPIs to a scorecard. If you have not, and need more information, see Create a scorecard by using the wizard.

By using the tools in PerformancePoint Dashboard Designer to promote or demote individual KPIs, you can create a scorecard hierarchy. Alternatively, you can change the position of a KPI in an existing hierarchy.

The position of a KPI in a scorecard hierarchy is one of the factors that determines whether the KPI is classified as a leaf-level KPI, non-leaf KPI, or an objective KPI. (To view specific examples of how you can use these classifications in a scorecard, see Scorecard overview.) The other factors are the scorecard design, and the KPI Calculation setting.

KPI classifications in a scorecard hierarchy

  • A leaf-level KPI is at the lowest level of a scorecard hierarchy; that is, it has no KPIs under it in the hierarchy.

  • A non-leaf KPI is a KPI that has leaf-level KPIs that are indented under it.

  • An objective KPI is a KPI that has non-leaf KPIs indented under it, or a combination of non-leaf KPIs and leaf-level KPIs.

To learn how to configure different kinds of KPIs, see Configure KPI classification: leaf-level, non-leaf, or objective.

Important: Before you can use a KPI in a scorecard, you must also configure the KPI calculation settings and data source settings. For more information, see the KPI configuration overview.
