Commands that might be disabled when more than one person is editing a document

When you are working in a document at the same time as another author, certain parts of the document might be blocked to you because they are being worked on by someone else. When a part of the document is blocked, the following commands are not available within the blocked part of the document.

Home tab, Font group

Bold, Change Case, Clear Formatting, Font, Font Color, Font Size, Increase Font Size, Italic, Decrease Font Size, Strikethrough, Subscript, Superscript, Text Effects, Text Highlight Color, Underline

Home tab, Paragraph group

Bulleted List, Numbered List, Multilevel List, Align Text Left, Align Text Right, Borders, Center Text, Decrease Indent, Increase Indent, Justify Text, Line Spacing, Sort

Home tab, Styles group

All styles and style sets are unavailable. You cannot change the styles, colors, or fonts that are applied to text.

Document Elements tab, all groups

You can insert headers and footers and cover pages. All other commands on the Document Elements tab are unavailable.

Layout tab, Page Setup group

Breaks, Orientation

Layout tab, Page Background group

Page Color

Format tab, Arrange group

Position, Wrap Text, Bring Forward, Send Backward, Align (You can view gridlines, but you can’t change the alignment.)

Format Picture tab, Arrange group

Position, Wrap Text, Bring Forward, Send Backward, Align (You can view gridlines, but you can’t change the alignment.)

Other actions that are not available

Typing new text, inserting a page break, or making any insertions or deletions in the blocked area.
