Chart Seeding rule for models without Flow dimension in Planning Business Modeler

If a financial model has no Flow dimension, the Chart Logic process runs the Chart Seeding rule. This rule seeds the opening balance for Balance Sheet accounts in all the periods between the specified start and end dates. For more information about Balance Sheet accounts, see the topic About the Account dimension.

PerformancePoint Planning Business Modeler generates the Chart_Seeding rule automatically for a financial model. Users can run these rules directly. Then, because the rule has SQL implementation, Planning Business Modeler creates a stored procedure. For more information about SQL implementation, see the topic SQL implementation.

Planning Business Modeler does not allow for changes of any kind to the Chart Logic rules. The Chart Logic rules and associated rule set cannot be revised or deleted. However, the Chart Seeding rule requires that users to provide necessary information. For more information, see the topic User-supplied values required for Chart Logic rules.

Chart Seeding calculations

The following tables show how the seeding rule works.

Table 1 shows the values that are in selected dimension members when the data is loaded to several Balance Sheet accounts.

To run the Chart Seeding rule, the user must supply values for scenario, start date, and end date. The following list shows the parameter values for this example:

  • Start=20044

  • End=20050

  • Scenario=Actual

Table 2 shows the values in the same dimension members after the run. Because the end date extends beyond the time of the original value, the rule creates cells to fulfill the requirements of the parameters. In addition, notice that the rule selects the values that match the scenario stated in the parameters.

Note:  If the Chart Seeding rule was run previously and there are exisiting values, the calculation overwrites the values. If the existing values were loaded or entered by the user, they will be preserved when the Chart Seeding rule populates new rows with seed values. Both the user input values and the seed values will be aggregated in the cube. Users must verify whether this is the expected result in their cases.
