Change the color and thickness of ink strokes in OneNote for Windows 10

In OneNote for Windows 10, you can choose the color and thickness of new and existing ink strokes when drawing or handwriting notes.


Set the color and thickness of new ink strokes

  1. On the Draw tab, click or tap Draw with Mouse or Touch.

  2. Near the left side of the ribbon, click or tap the Pen or Highlighter tool, and then select your preferred ink color.

  3. To the right of the color options, choose the thickness for the ink strokes you will draw by doing either of the following:

    • Click or tap the + symbol as often as you want to increase the pen or highlighter thickness.

    • Click or tap the symbol as often as you want to decrease the pen or highlighter thickness.

  4. Draw or handwrite your notes on the screen.

    Tip: To change the pen or highlighter color or thickness at any time while drawing or writing notes, repeat steps 2 and 3 as needed.


Set the color and thickness of existing ink strokes

If you change your mind about the color or thickness of ink strokes that you have already drawn on the page, you can easily make adjustments.

  1. Select the existing ink stroke (or strokes) whose color or thickness you want to adjust.

  2. Do any of the following:

    • To the right of the pen and highlighter tools, click or tap to select the new color you want to use.

    • To the right of the color options, click or tap the + symbol as often as you want to increase the pen or highlighter thickness. If you have a keyboard attached, you can also repeatedly press Ctrl+B to do this.

    • To the right of the color options, click or tap the symbol as often as you want to decrease the pen or highlighter thickness. If you have a keyboard attached, you can also repeatedly press Ctrl+Shift+B to do this.
