Change nameservers to set up Office 365 with Nettica

If Nettica has been your DNS hosting provider, you should be aware that your domain registration has been moved to Dyn, which recently acquired Nettica.

Follow the steps in the two sections of this article, first to set up services at Dyn.com and then to point your nameservers to Office 365.

Set up services at Dyn

Your domain account has already been transferred to Dyn. Before you can start using Office 365, however, you need to set up your Dyn services. Follow these steps to complete the service transfer process.

  1. To get started, go to your domains page at Nettica by using this link. You'll be prompted to login first.

  2. On the Account Summary page, in the alerts area, choose Login to your Dyn account.

  3. Using your Nettica username and password, log in to your Dyn account.

  4. In the My Services section, choose View, modify, purchase, and delete your services.

  5. On the Account Level Services page, in the Dyn Services section, choose Add Zone Service.

  6. In the Domain Name field, type or copy and paste your domain_name.

(If you have more than one domain to transfer, choose + add more names and add the domain_name for each of the other domains.)

  7. In the Name Registration area, select Transfer an existing domain to your account.

Note: If your Nettica account has expired, you will need to purchase DNS services from Dyn. Nettica accounts in good standing are transferred to Dyn on a pro-rated basis.

  8. In the DNS Services area, select I already have DNS service for this domain.

  9. Choose Continue.

  10. On the Add Zone Services page, double-check your Requested Domains entry, and then choose Continue to finish the transfer process.

Note:  Typically it takes about 15 minutes for DNS changes to take effect. However, it can occasionally take longer for a change you've made to update across the Internet's DNS system. Change your domain’s nameserver (NS) records

Even though your DNS services are active, the nameservers for your transferred domains are set by default to inactive (parked). To point your nameservers to Office 365, you must delegate your domain to the Dyn Standard DNS nameservers, and then change your nameservers so that they point to Office 365.

Important: When you have completed the steps in this section, the only nameservers that should be listed are these four:

  • ns1.bdm.microsoftonline.com

  • ns2.bdm.microsoftonline.com

  • ns3.bdm.microsoftonline.com

  • ns4.bdm.microsoftonline.com

The following procedure will show you how to delete any other, unwanted nameservers from the list, and also how to add the correct nameservers if they are not already in the list.

  1. To get started, go to your domains page at Dyn by using this link. You'll be prompted to log in first.

  2. In the My Services section, choose View, modify, purchase, and delete your services.

    Dyn-BP-Transfer-1-2

  3. On the Account Level Services page, in the ZONE LEVEL SERVICES section, choose Dyn Standard DNS Service for the domain that you want to delegate.

    Dyn-BP-Delegate-1-1

  4. On the DNS for domain_name page, choose Update your delegation.

    Dyn-BP-Delegate-1-2

  5. Choose OK to accept Dyn delegation.

    Dyn-BP-Delegate-1-3

  6. On the Domain Name Registration page, choose Edit Nameservers.

    Dyn-BP-Delegate-1-4

  7. On the Domain page, in the Nameservers: box, delete the default nameservers by selecting them and then pressing the Delete key on your keyboard.

    Dyn-BP-Redelegate-1-1

  8. In the first line of the Nameservers: box, type or copy and paste the First line value from the following table.

Press the Enter key on your keyboard to create a new line and then, in the second line of the Nameservers: box, type or copy and paste the Second line value.

    First line

    ns1.bdm.microsoftonline.com

    Second line

    ns2.bdm.microsoftonline.com

    Dyn-BP-Redelegate-1-2

  9. Choose Save Nameservers.

Note: Your nameserver record updates may take up to several hours to update across the Internet's DNS system. Then your Office 365 email and other services will be all set to work with your domain.
