Change account settings like your password or language in Office 365 for business

You can change your work or school account settings, including your language, password, and more.

Your settings

To see your personal account settings:

  1. Sign in to Office 365 with your work or school account.

  2. At the top of the page, click Settings  Settings: update your profile, install software and connect it to the cloud > Office 365 settings

What you can do


Install software like Office and Lync. The contents of this page change based on what you have access to. For example, if you are using a Mac, you’ll see information for Mac users. See Install Office on your PC or Mac with Office 365.

Start page

Change the page you see when Office 365 starts. See Change your Office 365 start page.


Set calendar item reminders and new email notifications.


Change your Office 365 password. See Change your password.


Choose your language for the Office 365 portal, Newsfeed, OneDrive, and Sites. See Change your display language.

Get started

When you first signed in to the Office 365 portal, the page showed getting started tasks like watching videos, installing software on your PC and Mac, and setting up mobile access on your phone or tablet. Click this tab in Office 365 settings to see that page again.


  • More options. There are settings and options for all the services in Office 365, including Outlook, Newsfeed, and Sites. To see those settings, click the link at the top of the page for the service, and then click Settings  Settings: update your profile, install software and connect it to the cloud. The choices under Settings change for each service.

  • Change theme. You can change the appearance of Office 365 to suit your mood or personal style. See Change your Office 365 theme.

Admin settings

An admin is someone who sets up Office 365 for an organization. Your organization might have one admin or a whole team. Admins can change settings for the whole organization. These settings are different from personal account settings.

Contact preferences

Request that Microsoft send you—or stop sending you—information about topics like promotional offers, customer research, and compliance notifications. See Change your contact preferences.

Change company information

This includes the company’s address. See Change your organization's address and other profile information.

Reset passwords

An admin can reset a user’s password if they forget it. See Reset a user's password.

An admin can also reset their own password if they forget it. See Reset passwords for admins.

An admin can also change how often passwords expire. See Change how often passwords expire.

Credit card

An admin can change the credit card that gets billed for Office 365. See Update your credit card information.
