Buy (register) a domain name with Office 365

If you want to use a custom domain with your email and other services in Office 365 and you don't have one already, you can buy a domain name from Office 365. After you've bought the domain (also called registering the domain), we'll automatically set up services like email and Skype for Business Online on your domain for you. You'll manage your domain registration in Office 365, including renewing your domain subscription to keep it current.

Note: You can only buy a domain name in Office 365 if you have a paid subscription for Office 365.

Find the option to buy (register) a domain name using the Office 365 admin center

  1. Sign in to Office 365, and in the Admin center, choose Domains.

Click Domains on Office 365 Admin page
  2. Choose Buy domain.

On the Manage domains page, click Buy domain

Step through the buy domain wizard to register your domain name

  1. After you choose Buy domain, type the domain name that you'd like to register, and click Check availability.

Step one to buy a domain: Provide a domain name
  2. If the domain name is available, you see the price per year for the domain, and the Next option becomes available. Click Next.

Step 2 to buy a domain: Find the name
  3. Next, provide contact information for the domain. Make sure you include a valid email address here. We'll use this address to send required emails for future domain management actions such as domain transfers.

Tip: This information is required to register the domain, but you can (for supported domain names) opt to not have it shared publicly by choosing WHOIS privacy protection at checkout. It's included, as part of your subscription.

After entering the information, click Next.

Step 3 to buy a domain: Provide contact info
  4. Review the final order, including choosing privacy protection if you like, and enter your payment information.

Step 6 to buy a domain: Review the order
  5. The last step is to update the email addresses, which are also the user IDs, for Office 365 users you've already created, so they'll have the domain name you just purchased. So for example, don@contoso.onmicrosoft.com is updated to don@contoso.com.

Step 5 to buy a domain: Update current users

When you complete the wizard, email setup and other DNS record updates for services are set up automatically for your domain. And you're done!

  1. Sign in to Office 365, and in the Admin center, choose Domains.

In the left navigation pane, choose Domains

  2. Choose Buy domain.

On the Manage domains page, choose Buy domain

When you complete the wizard, email setup and other DNS record updates for services are set up automatically for your domain. And you're done!

You can also manage the domain, including updating contact information, from the Domains page. In the Admin center, choose Domains (or, under Settings choose Domains), and then choose your domain. (If you see Domain settings on the right, choose that and then you'll see the domain options.) Then, on the next page, or on the panel, you have the option to transfer the domain to another registrar.
