Add your Outlook.com account to another mail app

You can add your Outlook.com account to a variety of different email apps. Some apps allow you to manage your account, including changing a password or adding and removing folders, while other apps only offer you the ability to send and receive email.

Windows Phone

On Windows Phone and tablet devices, you can add the account to the default Email app.

  1. On the app list, tap Settings > Email & accounts > Add an account.

  2. Choose Outlook.

  3. Enter your Outlook.com address and your password, then tap Sign in.

iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch

On iOS devices, you can download the Microsoft Outlook app to access your email, calendar, and contacts. If you don't want to use this app, you can still add your email to the default iOS mail app.

  1. Open the Microsoft Outlook app and choose Get Started.

  2. Enter your email address and choose Add Account.

  3. Enter your password and choose Sign in.

  4. Answer Yes to the question Let this app access your info? You can change these permissions at any time in your account settings.

    Note: If you choose No, the Microsoft Outlook app won't be able to set up your account.

  5. If you don't need to add another account, choose Maybe Later to access your account.

    Note: You can't edit your contacts within this app.

Add your Outlook.com account to your iOS Mail app
  1. Choose Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > Add Account.

  2. Choose Outlook.com.

  3. Enter your email address and your password, along with a description, and choose Next.

  4. By default, Mail, Contacts, Calendars, and Reminders are all enabled. If you want to turn any of those types of information off, tap the sliders, and then choose Save.

Android phones

On Android devices, you can download the Microsoft Outlook app to access your email, calendar, and contacts. If you don't want to use this app, you can still add your email to the default Android mail app.

  1. Open the Microsoft Outlook app and choose Get Started.

  2. Enter your email address and choose Add Account.

  3. Enter your password and choose Sign in.

  4. Answer Yes to the question Let this app access your info? You can change these permissions at any time in your account settings.

    Note: If you choose No, the Microsoft Outlook app won't be able to set up your account.

  5. If you don't need to add another account, choose Maybe Later to access your account.

    Note: You can't edit your contacts within this app.

Outlook for Windows and Outlook for Mac

You can add your Outlook.com account to Outlook for Windows and Outlook for Mac.

Mail for Windows 10

Outlook.com is one of the built-in account types you can add in Mail for Windows 10.

  1. At the bottom of the left navigation pane, choose Settings Settings icon > Manage Accounts > Add account > Outlook.com.

  2. On the Add your Microsoft account screen, enter your Outlook.com email and password, then choose Sign in.

  3. When your account setup has finished, choose Done.

Apps that support POP and IMAP

If you want to add your Outlook.com account to another email program that supports POP or IMAP, here are the manual server settings you'll need.

Note: POP access is disabled by default. To enable POP access, see Enabling POP access in Outlook.com.

  • IMAP server name imap-mail.outlook.com

  • IMAP port 993

  • IMAP encryption method SSL

  • POP server name pop-mail.outlook.com

  • POP port 995

  • POP encryption method SSL

  • SMTP server name smtp-mail.outlook.com

  • SMTP port 587

  • SMTP encryption method TLS

Enabling POP access in Outlook.com

If you want to use POP to access your email in Outlook.com, you'll first need to enable POP access:

  1. Choose Options > Managing your account > Connect devices and apps with POP.

  2. Under POP, choose Enable.

  3. Choose Save.

  1. Choose Options > Mail > POP and IMAP.

  2. Under POP options, choose Yes to let devices and apps use POP.

  3. Choose Save.
