You can add bookmarks to indicate points of interest in a video or audio clip. Bookmarks can be used to trigger animations or to mark a specific location to jump to in a media file.

While you're delivering a presentation, a bookmark in a media file lets you easily start from that point and play the media for your audience.

Here is a bookmark that shows where to trim the beginning of an audio clip:

Add a bookmark

  1. On the slide, click the video or audio clip.

  2. In the audio or video controls below the clip, click Play.

  3. When you reach the point where you want to make the cut, click Pause.

If you need to fine-tune the position on the time line, use the Move Backward and Move Forward arrows:

Media player controls in PowerPoint, with the Move Backward and Move Forward buttons emphasized.

  4. On the ribbon, select the Playback tab, then select Add Bookmark.

  5. Repeat steps 2–4 as needed to add more bookmarks.

Bookmarks appear as circles on the time line: The currently selected bookmark is colored yellow, while other bookmarks are white:

Media player controls in PowerPoint, with the Play button and time tracker emphasized.

Remove a bookmark

  1. On the time line, select the bookmark that you want to remove. (When it is selected, it will be colored yellow.)
