Add or delete holidays and custom events in your calendar
Holidays are all-day events in Outlook. By default, no holidays are added to your calendar when you begin to use Microsoft Outlook.
You can also create custom holiday files for other types of events, such as quarterly deadlines or your organization's paydays.

Add holidays and events
Click the File tab.
Under Calendar options, click Add Holidays.
Select the check box next to each country/region whose holidays you want to add to your calendar, and then click OK.
Note Your own country/region is automatically selected.
If you already added a country's or region's holidays to your calendar, the check box for that country/region is selected in the Add Holidays to Calendar dialog box. If you try to add the same items again, you receive the following message:
Holidays for country/region are already installed. Do you want to install them again?
If you click Yes, the holidays and events are installed again, and you see duplicate holiday and event entries.
Delete holidays and events
You can also follow these steps to delete any duplicate holidays that were added while you were adding holidays to your calendar.
In Calendar, on the View tab, in the Current View group, click Change View, and then click Events.
Note If you don’t see Events, make sure that you are in the Calendar view. The Events command doesn’t appear when you are in other views. In the Navigation Pane, click Calendar.
Select the holidays that you want to delete. To select multiple rows, press the CTRL key, and then click other rows.
Tip Click the Calendar icon to select a row. Don’t click in the data cells of the row.
On the Home tab, in the Actions group, click Delete.
Create custom holiday and event files
Outlook includes predefined holidays. However, what if you want everyone on your team to display company holidays and events, such as corporate paydays and quarterly expense due dates, in their calendars? You can create your own custom holiday set and distribute it to other people on your team.
Exit Outlook if it is running.
In Microsoft Windows Explorer, locate the following file:
drive:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office 14\LCID\outlook.hol
Note LCID is your locale identification (LCID) number. For more information about LCID numbers, see the See Also section.
Make a backup copy of the file.
Using a text editor, such as Notepad, open the Outlook.hol file.
Press CTRL+END to position the cursor at the end of the file.
Type a new header and custom events by using the format described below.
[Country or Description] ###Holiday or event description, yyyy/mm/ddHoliday or event description, yyyy/mm/dd
In the previous format, ### is the total number of items that are listed for a particular country/region or description. There is a space between the closing bracket and the number, in addition to a carriage return at the end of the line. On each holiday line, there are a comma and a space between the holiday description and the date, in addition to a carriage return at the end of the line. For example:
[Expense Reports] 4
Q1 Expense Reports Due, 2011/04/15
Q2 Expense Reports Due, 2011/07/15
Q3 Expense Reports Due, 2011/10/15
Q4 Expense Reports Due, 2012/01/15
Save and close Outlook.hol.
The next time that you run Outlook, the new Expense Reports dates are available to add to your calendar.
Distribute custom holiday and event files
You can distribute a customized holiday and event file to other people in the following ways:
Send an email message that has the Outlook.hol file attached.
Place the file in a shared folder on your network where other people can copy the file.
