Add an MSN Hotmail or Windows Live Hotmail account

You can use your MSN Premium, MSN Hotmail Plus, and Microsoft Office Outlook Live accounts with Microsoft Office Outlook 2007. In addition, some MSN Personal Address, Windows Live Custom Domains service, and Windows Live Hotmail accounts can be used in Office Outlook 2007.

The Microsoft Office Outlook Connector for Windows Live Hotmail add-in is a way to use Office Outlook 2007 with these services. This Outlook add-in enables a rich integration between Outlook and the Windows Live Hotmail service that provides two-way synchronization of e-mail messages, calendar, contacts, tasks, and notes.

Note   If you are using a free e-mail account from MSN Hotmail, Windows Live Hotmail, or Windows Live Custom Domains, you cannot use Outlook to access your account.

Automatically add a Windows Live Hotmail account

  1. Close Outlook, and then install the Office Outlook Connector for Live Hotmail by using the instructions you received from your account provider.

  2. Start Outlook.

    The Microsoft Office Outlook Connector dialog box appears.

    1. Enter your complete e-mail address. For example: bobby@contoso.com.

    2. The password you enter should match the one that you created for your account.

    3. You can control what name your mail recipients see on the From line. You can enter your first and last names, first name only, or a nickname.

  3. In the E-mail address box, enter your complete e-mail address.

  4. In the Password box, enter the password for your account.

  5. In the Name box, enter your name as you want others to see it.

  6. Click OK.

    A dialog box appears prompting you to restart Outlook. You must restart Outlook to begin using the account that you just added.

    After Outlook restarts, your new account appears in the Navigation Pane.

Manually add a Windows Live Hotmail account

  You must install the Office Outlook Connector for Live Hotmail add-in before you can manually add and configure an e-mail account for a service that uses Windows Live Hotmail.

To add an additional Windows Live Hotmail account, or to add your first account if you stopped the account setup when you installed the Office Outlook Connector for Live Hotmail add-in, do the following:

  1. On the Tools menu, click Account Settings.

  2. On the E-mail tab, click New.

  3. Click Other, and then select Microsoft Office Outlook Connector.
