If you are familiar with Microsoft Office PowerPoint 2007 or earlier versions if Microsoft PowerPoint, the following list describes features and functionality that have been discontinued or changed in Microsoft PowerPoint 2010.

  • Save as Web Page    You can no longer select Single File Web Page (.mht, .mhtml) or Web Page (.htm, .html) from the Save As dialog box.

  • Maximum sound file size    The audio/video link and embed feature has replaced the maximum sound file size feature. In PowerPoint 2010, you can embed more types of files of any size. You will not see the Max Sound File Size (KB) in the ribbon or the Link sounds with file size greater than in the PowerPoint Options dialog box.

  • Print Preview    The Print and Print Preview dialog boxes have been incorporated into the Microsoft Office Backstage view. To access the print features in PowerPoint 2010, click the File tab, and then click Print.

  • Custom Animation task pane    The Custom Animation task pane has been renamed the Animation Pane. In PowerPoint 2010, you cannot add animations to objects using the Animation Pane. To add, change, or modify animation effects, you can use the commands located on the Animations tab, in the Animation, Advanced Animation, and Timing groups.

  • Draw Custom Motion Path    You can no longer draw Line, Curve, Freeform, or Scribble custom motion path animations. You can still Edit Points for most motion path animations.
To Edit Points for a motion path animation, select the object that has the motion path, and on the Animations tab, in the Animation group, click Effect Options and select Edit Points.

  • Transition tab    Transitions effects are no longer accessible from the Animations tab in the ribbon. Instead, transitions are now available on their own tab!

  • Directional transition effects    Transition effects like Wipe, Uncover, Push, Shape, Split, Cover, and Checkerboard can now be modified to go right, left, up, or down. The Wheel and Box transitions have been renamed Clock and Shape, respectively. The Strips Left Down, Strips Left Up, Strips Right Down, and Strips Right Up transitions have been removed.
These features will still function in a file created in a previous version of PowerPoint.

  • Clip Art task pane    Several changes have been made to the Clip Art task pane:

    • Search in box    The Search in box is no longer available, which means that you can no longer limit your search to specific collections of content. To narrow your search, you can use multiple search terms in the Search for box.

    • Organize clips link    The Organize clips link is no longer available. To open Microsoft Clip Organizer from Windows 7, Windows Vista, or Windows XP, click the Windows Start button, click All Programs, click Microsoft Office, click Microsoft Office 2010 Tools, and then click Microsoft Clip Organizer

  • Clip Organizer    Clip Organizer is no longer accessible directly from the Clip Art task pane in Microsoft Office programs. In addition, the following changes were made to Clip Organizer:

    • Automatic organization    The command for automatically finding media files on your computer and organizing them into collections no longer exists. However, you can still add clips manually to Clip Organizer or import them from a scanner or camera.

    • Send to e-mail recipient as attachment    The command for sending a clip as an attachment in e-mail message is no longer available.

    • Delete from collection    Although you can delete clips from Clip Organizer, you can no longer delete a clip from a specific collection.

    • Find similar style    The command that allowed you to find clips of a similar style is no longer available.

    • List and Details views    The List and Details views are no longer available.

  • English Assistance service    Because of low usage, the English Assistance feature and service is no longer available. For more information, please see What happened to English Assistance? If you try to use the service, you'll get the message "The service could not be searched because you are not connected to the Internet. Please connect and try again." even if you're connected to the Internet.

  • Korean Language Reference (KOLR) service    Because of low usage, the Korean Language Reference research service is no longer available. This affects the English and Korean versions of PowerPoint. If you try to use the service, you'll get the message "The service could not be searched because you are not connected to the Internet. Please connect and try again." even if you're connected to the Internet.
