The Name field contains the name of a task or a resource.

There are several categories of Name fields.

Data Type    Text

Name (task field)

Entry Type    Entered

Best Uses    Make an entry in the Name field to represent, identify, and describe the name of a task.

Example    You are adding a new task that has to do with writing a proposal for a potential new customer. In the Name field on the Gantt Chart view, you type "Write Proposal" to identify and describe the task.

Name (resource field)

Entry Type    Entered

Best Uses    Make an entry in the Name field to represent and identify the name of a resource.

Example    To identify Sean as a resource in your project, you type "Sean M. Garcia" in the Name field in the Resource Sheet view.

Remarks    Always try to use different names for different resources in your project. If you have resource names that are identical, you can add a department name, a middle initial, or some other unique qualifier to the name to make it distinct. For example, if there are two resources in your project by the name of Jeff Smith, one can be "Jeff Smith (Accounting)" and the other can be "Jeff Smith (Customer Service)."
