If you're you seeing a "Something went wrong.." error message when trying to open a password-protected Excel file on your mobile device, it might be because the file is a format that's not supported by your mobile device. If so, you can work around the error by opening the file on a desktop computer and saving it to a file format that's supported on your mobile device.

Important: This workaround might not save all the latest changes, formatting, and features of the workbook specific to the version of Excel you are using.

  1. Open your password-protected Excel file on a computer running Windows.

  2. Select File > Save As.

  3. In the file formats list, select .xlsx or another file format that is supported on your device.
