"This is the right place to install and re-install Office" message when I try to sign in to My Account

If you signed in to My Office Account and saw the following message, it means Office doesn't recognize the account you signed in with as the one associated with Office:

"This is the right place to install and re-install Office 2016, Office 2013, and Office 365, or manage your Office 365 subscription, but you signed in with an account not associated with any Office products."

To install or reinstall Office 365, Office 2016, or Office 2013, or to manage your Office 365 subscription, you must use the Microsoft account you associated with Office.

Select from the following to resolve this issue.

To install or reinstall Office, or to view or manage your Office 365 subscription at My Account, you must be signed in with the Microsoft account that’s associated with your personal copy of Office.

Use your product key to see a portion of your Microsoft account

  1. If your copy of Office came with a 25-character product redemption key like in the image below or on an email receipt, (whether or not you have a key depends how you got your copy of Office), try the following using your key:

  2. Go to www.office.com/setup. Enter any Microsoft account or follow the prompts to create a new one.

  3. After signing in, type the 25-character key that came with your copy of Office.

  4. On the My Office Account page, you'll see a portion of the Microsoft account you used to buy or activate Office, or that you used when you first signed in to My Account.

  5. Select the link Sign in with your other Microsoft account, and then sign in with the correct Microsoft account.

If this isn't enough to remember your Microsoft account, you don't have or never received a product key, or someone installed Office on your behalf with a different email address and password, contact support by selecting the Ask support (it's free) link on the My Office Account page to review your options.

Check which email address you signed in with by looking in the upper right corner of the window. For example, if you signed in with the email address you use with work or school, you should sign out and then sign in with the Microsoft account email address that’s associated with your personal copy of Office instead.

  • To sign out, from the upper right corner, select the name you signed in with and then select Sign out.

If you wanted to sign in to Office with your work or school account, just sign out of the account you're currently signed in with, and sign in again with the correct account at office.com.

If you're certain you signed in with the correct account, contact support by selecting Contact Us at the bottom of this page.

If you bought or received a copy of one of the Office for home versions but haven't installed it yet, it's possible you missed the step of associating Office with your Microsoft account.

Linking your Microsoft account with Office depends how you got Office.

A product key came with your copy of Office   

Go to office.com/setup and follow the steps on screen to add or create a new account, and then enter your product key. See Where to enter your Office product key for more details.

You can't find your product key and you bought Office from an online retailer   

Your product key might be included on the order confirmation email you received, or you can try signing back in to the online retailer to review your order history.

You bought Office through your organization's Home Use Program (HUP) benefit   

Some versions of Office purchased through HUP don't need an account. See Install or reinstall Office through Microsoft HUP.

You bought Office from the online Microsoft Store

Do the following:

Step 1: Go to www.microsoftstore.com and sign in (upper right-hand corner) with the Microsoft account that you used to buy Office.

Step 2: After you sign in, select your name in the upper right-hand corner, and then select Order History.

Step 3: Locate the Office one-time purchase or individual Office app, and then select Install Office to view your product key (this doesn't actually install Office).

Step 4: Select Install Office again in the window where the product key appears.

Step 5: On the Hi. Let's get your Office page, follow the prompts to sign in again and associate your product key with your Microsoft account.

If you don't have an Office 365 subscription, or own a copy of Office 2016 or Office 2013, you can buy or try Office now.

  1. Go to office.com and sign in with your Microsoft account.

  2. On that page, select any of the free online apps you'd like to use.
