I have just purchased Office 2013 and running it on Windows 7. Excel, Publisher and Access all work fine but when I try and open Word it just shuts down after selecting New Document.... anything I try

That option isn’t available in Word for the web. To open your document in the desktop version of Word, click Edit Document > Edit in Word, or click Open in Word. Then follow the instructions in Create a fillable form. When you save the document and reopen it in Word for the web, you’ll see the changes you made.
