Important:

  • When you change options in this dialog box, the changes are immediately applied to your picture, making it easy to see the effects of the changes in your picture without closing the dialog box. However, since the changes are instantly applied, it is not possible to click Cancel in this dialog box. To remove changes, you must click Undo Undo button on the Quick Access Toolbar for each change that you want to remove.

  • You can simultaneously undo multiple changes that you made to one dialog box option, as long as you did not make changes to another dialog box option in between.

  • You may want to move the dialog box so that you can see both the picture and the dialog box at the same time.

Artistic Effect

Click to change the artistic effect applied to the picture. If you have adjusted the options for one artistic effect and then switch to a different artistic effect, your adjustments are not retained.

Note: Each artistic effect has two options that you can adjust. Most include Transparency and one additional option.

Transparency      To specify how much of the original picture you can see through the artistic effect, move the Transparency slider or enter a number in the box next to the slider. You can vary the percentage of transparency from 0 (fully opaque, the default setting) to 100% (fully transparent).

Brush Size     To specify the size of the brush used to create the effect, move the Brush Size slider or enter a number in the box next to the slider. The higher the number, the bigger the width of the brush.

Crack Spacing      Available when the Cement artistic effect is applied. This option specifies the brightness and depth of the crack. The higher the number the brighter the picture and the bigger the crack.

Detail      Available when the Photocopy artistic effect is applied. This option controls the emphasis put on showing the details of the picture. The higher the number the more pronounced the details in the picture.

Grain Size     To specify the amount of film grain appearance in the effect, move the Grain Size slider or enter a number in the box next to the slider. The higher the number the more distinct each grain becomes.

Grid Size     To specify the size of the grid pieces used to create the effect, move the Grid Size slider or enter a number in the box next to the slider. The higher the number the bigger the size of the grid.

Intensity     To specify the contrast or crispness used in the areas of the picture, move the Intensity slider or enter a number in the box next to the slider. The higher the number, the lower the contrast.

Number of Shades     To specify the number of color shades used to create the artistic effect, move the Number of Shades slider or enter a number in the box next to the slider.

Pencil Size     To specify the size of the pencil, move the Pencil Size slider or enter a number in the box next to the slider. The higher the number, the finer the pencil point.

Pressure     To specify the amount of pressure used to "draw" the effect, move the Pressure slider or enter a number in the box next to the slider. The higher the number, the greater the contrast.

Radius     This option is available only when the Blur artistic effect is applied to the picture and it is the only option that you can adjust. To specify the radius of the blur on the picture, move the Radius slider or enter a number in the box next to the slider. The larger the radius, the blurrier, or "fuzzier", the picture will be.

Scaling     To specify the amount of scaling used to "draw" the effect, move the Scaling slider or enter a number in the box next to the slider. The higher the number, the greater the contrast.

Size     To specify the size of the brush, move the Size slider or enter a number in the box next to the slider. The higher the number, the wider the brush size.
