Upload files or photos to OneDrive for Windows mobile devices

Upload and work with files in OneDrive on your Windows device just as you do on your computer. Upload and save any file type, including documents, photos, videos, and music files.

Select your device's version of Windows from one of the tabs below:

This applies to Windows 10 for XBox One, HoloLens, Surface Hub, or tablets.

Upload files from your device to OneDrive

Use the same process to upload and save any file type in the OneDrive app, including documents, photos, videos, and music files.

  1. In the OneDrive app, in the folder where you want the files or photos added, select Upload.

  2. Select Files if you are uploading individual files, or Folder if you're uploading a folder and all of its contents.

  3. Browse to the files or folder you want to upload.

    Notes: 

    • On a Windows 10 PC, the Open dialog box shows files on your PC. Browse to the files you want to upload and select, Open.

      You can also upload photos and videos from your phone to the OneDrive folder on your computer with File Explorer, or Photos app import. Connect your phone to the computer with your phone's data cable, or using wi-fi or Bluetooth connection.

Create a folder

You can add folders in the Files view, or inside any other folder in OneDrive.

  1. In the OneDrive app, in the Files Files icon for OneDrive app for Windows 10 view, select Folder .

  2. Enter a name for the new folder, then select Create .

Move files to a different OneDrive folder

  1. In the OneDrive app, select the check box of the file or files that you want to move.

  2. At the top, select Move to, then in the Move items to pane, select the destination folder for the file or files you're moving.

    Tip: To create a new folder for the files you're moving, select New folder, then enter the folder name.

This applies to Windows 10 for phones.

Upload files from your device to OneDrive

Use the same process to upload and save any file type in the OneDrive app, including documents, photos, videos, and music files.

  1. In the OneDrive app, in the folder where you want the photos added, tap Add Add photo.

  2. Tap Upload Upload icon for OneDrive for Windows 10 mobile.

  3. At Choose an app, pick the source of the file you want to upload, such as This Device or your phone's Photos app.

    Notes: 

    • On a Windows 10 PC, the Open dialog box shows files on your PC. Browse to the files you want to upload and select, Open.

    • If your phone is set to save photos automatically to OneDrive, your phone's Photos app shows photos from OneDrive as well as phone photos that have not been uploaded. Uploading a photo already in OneDrive creates a duplicate of the photo.

  4. Find the file you want to upload, select it, and then tap OK OK .

Tip: You can also upload photos and videos from your phone to the OneDrive folder on your computer with File Explorer, or Photos app import. Connect your phone to the computer with your phone's data cable, or using wi-fi or Bluetooth connection.

Automatically upload photos and videos you take from your device to OneDrive

Note: Camera Upload can only be used on one account at a time.

  1. In the OneDrive app, tap Menu OneDrive Menu > Settings OneDrive settings > Camera upload.

  2. Under Camera upload, turn the switch On.

    To also automatically upload videos you take with your phone, turn On the switch at Include videos.

    Tip: You can upload videos automatically only if Camera upload is also turned on.

  3. Under Camera backup account, tap open the list and select the OneDrive account that you want pictures uploading to.

Tip: If you are using a metered internet connection, such as a cellular data connection, turn the switch Off at Upload on metered connections. If your connection is not metered - most wi-fi network connections are not metered - you can turn this switch on.

Create a folder

You can add folders in the Files view, or inside any other folder in OneDrive.

  1. In the OneDrive app, in the Files view, tap Add Add photo, then tap New folder The New Folder command in OneDrive app on Windows Phone 10.

  2. Enter a name for the new folder, then tap OK OK.

Move files to a different OneDrive folder

  1. In the OneDrive app, tap Select Select files, then tap the check box of one or more files you want to move, tap See more See more, and then tap Move Move files.

  2. At Move items to, tap the folder you want the files moved to, then tap Move OK.

    Tip: To create a new folder for the files you're moving, tap New folder The New Folder command in OneDrive app on Windows Phone 10.

Upload files from your device to OneDrive

  1. In OneDrive, in the All Files view, tap Add Add photo at the bottom of the screen.

  2. At Choose an app, pick the source of the photo or video you want to upload, such as your phone's Photos app.

  3. Find the photo or video you want to upload, select it, and then tap OK Done adding.

Notes: 

  • Camera Upload can only be used on one account at a time.

  • Photos uploaded through the Camera Upload feature will automatically be sorted by Year and Month into nested folders in the Camera Roll folder. This can be controlled by the “Organization” Settings in the Camera Upload settings page. Please note that moving, renaming, or deleting these folders is not supported or recommended at this time.

  1. Go to your phone's Settings and tap backup > photos + videos.

  2. Under Photos or Videos, select either Good quality or Best quality.

    If you don't want to automatically upload photos or videos, make sure Don't upload is selected.

Create a folder

You can add folders in the Files view, or in any other folder in OneDrive.

  1. In the view or folder where you want a new folder, tap More See More icon for OneDrive for Windows Mobile 8/8.1, then select create a new folder.

  2. Tap Folder name and type the name you want for the folder, then tap OK Done adding .

Move files to a different OneDrive folder

  1. Select the files you want to move, and then tap Move Move icon for OneDrive for Windows Mobile 8/8.1 (You may have to tap More See More icon for OneDrive for Windows Mobile 8/8.1 first to see the Move icon).

    Tip: You can move folders into another folder, as well as individual files.

  2. Your Files list appears. Tap the folder you want the files moved to, then tap move items here.

Tip: To create a new folder for these moved files, at the bottom of the Files list, tap New folder. Enter a name for the new folder, then tap Create.
