If you have an object in one file that you’d like to put into another, such as a doc, a dynamic chart, or a presentation slide, embed or link to it.

Note: This feature is not available for the Office Online apps.

Embed a file

To insert a copy of your file into another, embed it.

  1. Select Insert > Object.

  2. Select Create from File.

  3. Select Browse and go to the file you want to use.

  4. Select Insert.

  5. Select Display as icon and then select OK.

Link to a file

If you'd like to see the most recent version of a file in another, link to it.

  1. Select Insert > Object.

  2. Select Create from File.

  3. Select Browse and go to the file you want to use.

  4. Select Insert.

  5. Select Link to file and then select OK.
