Upload files or photos to OneDrive in Android

Upload files or photos to OneDrive in Android

Use the OneDrive app to upload photos and videos from your device (including automatically), create new folders, and move photos and videos from one OneDrive folder to another.

Automatically upload photos and videos you take to OneDrive

Note: Camera Upload can only be used on one account at a time.

When you sign in to OneDrive for the first time, you'll be asked if you'd like to automatically upload photos and videos you take on your phone to OneDrive. Tap Turn on to turn on automatic upload. You can also turn this on from Settings. Here's how:

  1. In the OneDrive app, tap the Me icon Person icon in OneDrive app for iOS at the bottom of the app, then tap Settings OneDrive settings .

  2. Tap Camera upload.

  3. Set Camera upload to On.

Notes:

  • To help preserve your device battery while downloading, select the Upload only when charging checkbox.

  • All photos and videos will be uploaded at their original sizes when you're on a Wi‑Fi network. If you want to use your mobile network, open the OneDrive app, open Settings, tap Camera backup, tap Upload using, and choose Wi‑Fi and mobile network.

  • The camera roll on your device uploads to OneDrive, rather than syncing. That means you can delete uploaded photos and videos from your device, and the copies in OneDrive won't be affected.

  • The OneDrive cloud icon may briefly appear in your Android notifications as part of the normal upload process.

For OneDrive for Business accounts:

  1. Make sure you're signed in to the app with the account that you want to upload photos to.

  2. Select Me Person icon in OneDrive app for iOS > Photos.

  3. In the Photos view, from the Camera upload status pop-up, select Turn on. (If you already have Camera Upload enabled on another account, select Change instead.)

  4. Confirm that you want to Turn on Camera upload. (If you selected Change in the previous step, confirm that you want to Change the Camera Upload account.)

  5. Confirm again that you have the right account selected.

Manually upload photos or files

If your device is set to automatically upload pictures to OneDrive, pictures you take with your device will be in the OneDrive Camera roll folder. You don't have to upload them to OneDrive manually.

  1. Open the OneDrive app.

  2. Navigate to the folder where you want to add your files.

  3. Tap Add Add button in the OneDrive app for Android at the top of the screen, and then tap Upload.

    Upload to OneDrive

  4. Tap and hold to select the file or files you want to upload. They upload to the folder you had opened.

Create a folder

You can add folders in the Files view, or in any other folder in OneDrive.

  1. In the view or folder where you want a new folder, tap Add Add button in the OneDrive app for Android at the top of the screen, and then tap Create folder.

    Upload to OneDrive

  2. Type in a name for the folder, then tap OK.

Move files to a different OneDrive folder

  1. In the OneDrive app, tap and hold to select the file or files you want to move, then tap Move.

  2. At Select a destination folder, tap the folder you want the files moved to, then tap Move here.

Tip: To create a new folder for these moved files, tap Add Add button in the OneDrive app for Android and then Create Folder.
