If you notice that some theme or template thumbnails in the gallery are blank when you go to File > New, there's a quick fix you can try to refresh the thumbnails in your gallery.

Manually clear the thumbnail cache

  1. On your computer, select Start > File Explorer.

  2. If you're using Office 2016,

    • Go to (C:) > Users > [your username] > AppData > Microsoft > Office > 16.0, and find the folder named WebServiceCache.

    If you're using Office 2013,

    • Go to (C:) > Users > [your username] > AppData > Microsoft > Office > 15.0, and find the folder named WebServiceCache.

  3. Select the WebServiceCache folder and do one of two things:

    • Delete the folder.

    • Rename the folder to something of your choice.

Either of these choices will manually clear and reset the thumbnail cache, and when you go back to PowerPoint and go to File > New, you should see thumbnail previews of all the themes and templates in the gallery once again.
