Stereotype a UML element in a UML Model diagram

Note: This topic refers to stereotyping UML elements in the UML Model diagram, which is not available in Visio 2013 and later versions.

  1. Open the model diagram in Visio.

  2. Double-click the icon in the tree view or the shape in the diagram representing the element you want to stereotype.

  3. In the UML Properties dialog box, for Stereotype, select the stereotype from the dropdown menu, and then click OK.

    The stereotype appears in guillemets (<<  >>) above the element name on a shape in a diagram.

Tip: If the stereotype you want isn't listed, on the UML tab on the ribbon, click Stereotypes to define a new stereotype.

  1. Open the model diagram in Visio.

  2. Double-click the icon in the tree view or the shape in the diagram representing the element you want to stereotype.

  3. In the UML Properties dialog box, for Stereotype, choose the stereotype you want, and then click OK.

    The stereotype appears in guillemets (<<  >>) above the element name on a shape in a diagram.

Tip: If the stereotype you want isn't listed, on the UML menu, click Stereotypes to define a new stereotype.
