Not every business has a dedicated IT department. Sometimes it makes sense for an organization to outsource the complete management of their Office 365 environment to another company who has special skills in this area. By using a Microsoft partner network member, you can allow a partner to manage your Office 365 subscription and effectively become a remote IT administrator. Let's take a look at how that can work for you. Organizations can outsource part or all of their Office 365 administration to an external Microsoft partner.

They may already have a working relationship with this partner that they have established trust with them. There are thousands of Microsoft partners worldwide and there are specialists in one or more of Microsoft technologies. If you are looking to delegate administration of some or all of your Office 365 work load a partner can offer two levels of service. They can act in either full administration mode which gives them the privileges equivalent of a global administrator or limited administration which gives them privileges equivalent to password administrator.

Typically, a Microsoft partner will offer delegated administration for dozens or hundreds of their clients. You need to give permission to the Microsoft partner for them to be able to work with your Office 365 subscription. If the partner is a Microsoft cloud partner, they are able to log in to their partner admin center and view the customers for which they have delegated admin privileges, easily find, select and perform administrative tasks on behalf of their customers; view their customers' Office 365 service health status and details; and create, edit, and view service requests on behalf of their customers.

These are the top-level steps that you need to add a delegated administrator to your Office 365 subscription. Your chosen Microsoft partner will email you asking permission to act as a delegated administrator. You should read the terms and conditions of the partnership that is included in the email. And then authorize the agreement by clicking on the link contained within the email. An authorization web page will open and you need to click yes to authorize the partnership. Delegated administrators are shown in your Office 365 admin center.

You should know that you can delete a partner relationship at any time and then the partner can't access or modify your Office 365 service anymore. In the next video, we will look at how to configure a password expiration policy for your users.
