Outlook Search not inserting the expected localized text when using the ribbon

ISSUE

Microsoft Outlook search may not insert the expected localized text when using the search buttons on the search tab of the ribbon ex. “From” “Subject”, “Has Attachments”.

Scenario

When a user clicks on a button in the ribbon, the user does not see the same language text inserted. The search bar text and ribbon button text will be a different language. If Outlook and Windows do not match in the language settings, the user may see a mismatch in language on text compared to that of the Outlook UI. 

Note:  The search will still return the correct results even when the display text is unexpected.

STATUS: WORKAROUND 

The Outlook team is investigating. As a workaround, set the language in Outlook and Windows to match. To do this you will need to change the language in the OS to match Outlook, you may also need to change the language in both Windows and Outlook depending on your preferred language.

To do this in Windows:

Change display languages preferences in Windows 10.

To change your display language in Windows 10, follow these steps:

  1. Go to Start > Settings > Time & Language > Language

  2. Choose a language from the Windows display language menu.

If the language you want is not in the menu, follow these steps:

Follow these steps to add a new language to your Windows 10 PC. In Language settings, you can also set your display language preferences or change your keyboard language.

  1. Select Start > Settings   >  Time & Language  > Language

  2. Select Add a language.

  3. Choose the language you want from the list and select Next.

  4. Review any language features you want to set or install and select Install.

To do this in Outlook:

Within the Outlook application, select File > Options > Language.

Choose Display Language

If you’ve already set your Microsoft Windows display language to be that language you want Outlook to display in you can leave this set to Match Microsoft Windows. Otherwise select your language and click Set as Default to move that language to the top of the list. The language that is listed first is the one Office will use for its menus and buttons.
