What is Office Insider?

To get early access to new features, fixes, and security updates, join the Office Insider program. As an Insider, we'll send you previews of our latest feature updates. In return, we'd love to hear what you think. Watch a few folks from the Office teams explain how they work with Insiders to validate design decisions and improve the apps:

Our Insiders are a passionate community of people who love Office apps, and who want to make a difference in the products they use every day. Whether you're on a Windows computer, an Android tablet, or an Apple device, there's an Office Insider program you can join!

Office Insider for Windows Desktop is available for those with an Office 365 subscription in two levels —Insider (formerly called Insider Fast) and Monthly Channel (Targeted) (formerly called Insider Slow.)

  • Insider: Best for Insiders who want to use the very earliest builds to identify issues and provide feedback about new features still in development. Insider is ideal for those who don't mind the bit of risk involved in using unsupported builds.

Monthly Channel (Targeted): Best for Insiders who want to receive less frequent, more stable updates. We release Monthly Channel (Targeted) builds about once a month, and they are fully supported.

If you're ready to join, go to the Office Insider site and click Windows Desktop.

Or, if you have Office installed already, just click File > Account > Office Insider to quickly join the program or switch levels.

Are you using Office 365 in a work or school environment? Your Office 365 admin might control when and how you receive updates. For more information, see How Office 365 commercial customers can get early access to new Office 2016 features.

Office Insider for Mac is available in two levels—Insider Slow and Insider Fast. If you own a one-time purchase of Office 2016, you will receive security fixes and improvements earlier than others, but no new features.

  • Insider Fast: Best for Insiders who want to use the earliest preview builds, released more frequently, to identify issues and provide feedback, and who don’t mind a bit of risk using unsupported builds.

  • Insider Slow: Best for Insiders who want to get early access to fully supported builds with minimal risk and provide feedback to help improve Office.

Ready to join? Open any app, and then select Check for Updates on the Help menu. Check the box to Join the Office Insider program.
