Video: Use pictures in PowerPoint Online

Your browser does not support video. Install Microsoft Silverlight, Adobe Flash Player, or Internet Explorer 9.

Note: PowerPoint Online was formerly known as PowerPoint Web App.

Microsoft PowerPoint Online includes some of the same kinds of picture effects that are in the desktop PowerPoint program. That means you’re not tied to your computer when you want to put together slides that have a polished, professional look.

Add a picture

To add a picture to a slide, make sure you’re in Editing view (click Edit Presentation > Edit in PowerPoint Online), and start with a new or an existing slide.

Tip: To start with a new slide, on the Home tab, click New Slide and pick a layout.

  • To insert a picture stored on your computer, on the Insert tab click Picture, then locate and double-click a picture.

  • To insert a picture from the web, click Online Pictures, in the Bing Image Search box, enter the picture or clip art you want (such as border clip art), and press Enter. Double-click the picture or clip art you want to insert.

When using pictures or clip art from Bing, you're responsible for respecting copyright, and the license filter in Bing can help you choose which images to use.

Apply effects to pictures

  1. Click the picture, so the Picture Tools tab appears.

  2. Under Picture Tools on the Format tab, pick a style for your picture.

Note: Point to picture style before clicking it to see a description of the effect. Click the More button to see more picture styles.

Click the More button to see more picture styles

  3. To see how the picture will look in the slide show, click the View tab, and then click Reading View.

  4. If you want to return to changing picture effects, click Edit Presentation > Edit in PowerPoint Online, and then click the picture to display the Picture Tools tab again.
