Use the contact card

The contact card displays detailed information about people and provides several ways of communicating with someone. For example, you can send an instant message, start a call, or send an email message directly from someone’s contact card.

Start an IM with a contact

You can have instant messaging (IM) conversations with one or more contacts. To send an instant message to one person, do the following:

  1. From the Contacts screen, tap Search, and start typing a person’s name in the search box. The results appear below the box.

  2. When you find the contact you’re looking for, tap the person’s name, and then tap the IM icon to send an instant message.

Call a contact

To call someone in your Contacts list, do the following:

  1. From the Contacts screen, tap Search, and start typing a person’s name in the search box.

  2. When you find the contact you’re looking for, tap the contact’s name, and then tap the number you want to call, for example, Call Work.

  3. The Phone screen appears. Tap the Call icon.

  4. When the call is placed, you’ll first need to accept the Lync call in order to make the outgoing call.

View a contact’s presence status

Microsoft Lync 2010 communications software automatically sets your presence based on your activity.

  1. To view someone’s presence status, from the Contacts screen, tap Search, and then start typing a person’s name in the search box. The results appear below the box.

  2. When you find the contact you’re looking for, their presence status will be displayed next to their name or photo.

View a contact’s personal note

A contact’s personal note will appear with their contact card.

  1. To view a contact’s personal note, from the Contacts screen, tap Search and start typing a person’s name in the search box. The results appear below the box.

  2. When you find the contact you’re looking for, tap the contact’s name, and their personal note will be displayed on the Contact Card screen.

View a contact’s location

  1. To view a contact’s location, from the Contacts screen, start typing a person’s name in the search box. The results appear below the box.

  2. When you find the person you’re looking for, tap the contact’s name, and then on the card screen, scroll down to the Office section to view their location.

View a contact’s photo

  • To view a contact’s picture, from the Contacts screen, tap Search, and start typing a person’s name in the search box. The results appear below the box along with the contact’s photo.

Send an email to a contact

  1. To send an email to a contact, from the Contacts screen, tap Search, and start typing a person’s name in the search box. The results appear below the box.

  2. When you find the contact you’re looking for, tap the contact’s name, and then tap the Email icon to send an email.
