Use VoiceOver to search for sites with the SharePoint app for iOS

Search for SharePoint sites easily using VoiceOver, the built-in screen reader for your iOS device, along with the MicrosoftSharePoint app for iOS.


  • To access SharePoint Online with iOS, you must install and use the Microsoft SharePoint app from the App store.

  • The keyboard shortcuts and navigation in the SharePoint app may differ from those in the on-premises product (SharePoint Server).

  • You can use gestures or an external keyboard. .

  • Some functionality in SharePoint Online is introduced gradually to organizations that have opted in to the First Release program. Organizations that do not participate in the First Release program or are not using the modern view in SharePoint document libraries may see a different user interface than the one described in this topic.

  • This topic assumes you are using the built-in screen reader, VoiceOver.

Start the SharePoint app

  1. Open the MicrosoftSharePoint app.

  2. To sign in, move the focus to the Sign in to SharePoint Online button and then double-tap.

  3. Sign in to your organization’s Office 365 account.

Search for sites

To find a SharePoint Online site, after you open and sign in with the SharePoint app:

  1. Move the focus to the Search button, which is in the upper-right part of the screen. To open Search, double-tap.

  2. The focus is on the Search field. Type some text that appears in the name of the site you are trying to find. For example, if you’re trying to find your company’s human resources site, type HR.

  3. In the keypad at the bottom of the screen, move focus to the lower-right corner until you hear “Search” and then double-tap.

    Search results appear. By default, the pivot is set to Sites so that the results show SharePoint Online sites which have names that include the text you typed.

  4. To hear the results, drag down on the screen. The screen reader reads the site names.

  5. To go to a site, double-tap.

Depending upon how your site is set up, different content may open when you select a site.
