Use Quick Parts and AutoText in Word

Use the Quick Part Gallery to create, store, and find reusable pieces of content, including AutoText, document properties such as title and author, and fields.

To open the Quick Parts gallery, on the Insert tab, in the Text group, click Quick Parts.

Quick Parts

  • AutoText Use AutoText to save, store, and find content you want to reuse again and again.

  • Document Property Choose from a list of properties you can insert in your document. Fill in the document property box to create properties that travel with the document.

  • Field Codes Use field codes to insert fields that can automatically update information, such as the time, title, page numbers, and so on.

  • Building Blocks Organizer Preview all of the building blocks that are available to you. You can also edit properties, delete, and insert buildings blocks.

Save something to the Quick Part gallery or to AutoText

  1. Select the phrase, sentence, or other portion of your document you want to save to the gallery.

  2. Click Insert > Quick Parts, and then click Save Selection to Quick Part Gallery, change the name and add a description if you want to, and click OK.

    Note: To save a selection as AutoText, click Insert > Quick Parts > AutoText, and click OK.

Reuse something in the Quick Part gallery or AutoText

  1. Place your cursor where you want to insert a selection from Quick Parts.

  2. Click Insert > Quick Parts, and then click the sentence, phrase, or other saved selection you want to reuse.

    Note: If you saved the item as AutoText, click Insert > Quick Parts > AutoText to find and click the selection.
