TimeDataView calculation in Planning Business Modeler

PerformancePoint Planning Business Modeler automatically generates a definition rule named the TimeDataView calculation when you create a financial model. This rule uses the value of the Periodic member of the TimeDataView dimension to determine values of other members of this dimension. For more information about members of this dimension, see About the TimeDataView dimension.

When displayed, TimeDataView displays both current cumulative values and cumulative values for previous periods.

Because the TimeDataView calculation is a definition rule, Planning Business Modeler runs this rule every time that the model is deployed, or every time that the cells affected by the calculation are queried.

Planning Business Modeler does not allow for changes of any kind to the TimeDataView calculation rule. Thus, this rule cannot be revised or deleted.

Note:  Values for PERIODIC members at the non-leaf level of the TimeDataView dimension are calculated by the Aggregation rule. Users can provide data at the leaf level of the PERIODIC member.

The following list shows the members of the TimeDataView dimension that are calculated by the TimeDataView calculation:

  • YTD

  • TODATE

  • COMPARETOLASTYEAR

  • COMPARETOLASTPERIOD

The following sections provide additional information about the calculations for each dimension member.

YTD

This calculation computes year-to-date summary values.

TODATE

This calculation computes a cumulative, to-date view. The calculation is performed only for models that include the Flow dimension. For a Balance Sheet account in a model without a Flow dimension, the calculation assigns the value of the Periodic member to the TODATE member.

For other accounts, such as Income Statement accounts, the calculation assigns the sum of periods to date to the TODATE member.

The following list describes the values that the calculation uses for different situations with Balance Sheet accounts:

  • For a Balance Sheet account that uses Flows "None" or "Closing," the calculation assigns the value of the Periodic member to the TODATE member.

  • For a Balance Sheet account that uses Flow "Opening," the calculation assigns the value of the member first child to the TODATE member.

COMPARETOLASTYEAR

This calculation computes the difference between the value of the current member and the corresponding member value for the prior year.

COMPARETOLASTPERIOD

This calculation computes the difference between the value of the current member and the corresponding member value for the prior period.
