Start a file from a template in Office 2016 for Mac

Important: December 9, 2016: For UK markets, we had an issue with templates fail to open after clicking Create in Word 2016 for Mac. No error messages get displayed and the File New pane disappears. We have fixed this issue and verified that the templates will work as expected for our UK customers. In order to get the updated templates immediately on your Mac, please see the following steps in this article.

Your Office programs come with several templates already installed.

Note: Templates are files designed to be interesting, compelling, and professional-looking documents. Examples are calendars, cards, resumes, invitations, and newsletters. All the formatting is complete; you just add what you want to them.

  1. In an Office program, click File > New from Template.
