Use settings to specify voice, notifications, accessibility options, and contact and other settings for Lync 2013 for Windows Phone.

To get to the settings screen, tap More () at the bottom of any Skype for Business (Lync) screen, then tap Settings.

Call Forwarding

For details about all of your Call Forwarding options, see Call forward and simultaneous ring. Keep the following in mind though:

Important: There are two important things you need to know if you change any of the default Call Forwarding settings.

  • Call Forwarding settings are global and will automatically be applied to all of your Skype for Business (Lync) connected devices (desktop, Outlook Web App, mobile). If you change these settings on any of your Skype for Business (Lync) connected computers or devices, that setting will be reflected on all of them—similar to the way Skype for Business (Lync) Presence works. The rest of the Voice settings apply only to the current device.

  • When you're sure you've got the right combination of Call Forwarding settings, tap the checkmark at the bottom on the screen. These settings are applied all at once, so you're not done until you tap the checkmark. Don't miss it!

Caution: The Simultaneously ring feature is also used by the Voice Settings as a failover so that you will still be able to make or receive calls if Wi-Fi is not available or if the Voice Settings > Cellular option is selected. If you set Call Forwarding to Off and/or if you disable the Simultaneously ring option, while the Voice Settings > Cellular option is turned On, you will not receive Skype for Business (Lync) calls even if you have a Wi-Fi or cellular data connection.

Voice Settings

Note:  Voice Settings are only available for Windows Phone 8.1—and then only if your organization has Enterprise Voice configured on the Skype for Business (Lync) Server. If you have Windows Phone 8.1 installed but do not see these options, your organization may not have Enterprise Voice configured.

The default voice setting is VoIP always, where Skype for Business (Lync) first will try to use Wi-Fi to make voice over IP or Skype for Business (Lync) calls but if you're not connected to Wi-Fi, then Skype for Business (Lync) will use your cellular data connection.

If you choose VoIP over Wi-Fi only, when you are connected to a Wi-Fi network, Skype for Business (Lync) will first try to use Wi-Fi for incoming and outgoing Skype for Business (Lync) calls. When you select this option, your call forwarding settings will also be set to simultaneously ring your mobile number—so that when you make or receive a Skype for Business (Lync) call while you are not connected to a Wi-Fi network, your mobile number will ring and connect you to the call. In this scenario, the call is over your cellular voice network so video will not be available. And it will use your cellular voice plan minutes.

Note: If you disable simultaneous ring option after selecting this option (VoIP over Wi-Fi only), you will not receive Skype for Business (Lync) calls over your mobile number when you are not connected to Wi-Fi.

If you choose Cellular, when you make or receive a Skype for Business (Lync) call, Skype for Business (Lync) will call you back at your mobile number you specified. Video will not be available in this scenario. When you make a Skype for Business (Lync) call, this method will use Wi-Fi data (or cellular data, if Wi-Fi is not available) to establish the connection to the Skype for Business (Lync) Servers, then will use your mobile voice plan minutes for the duration of the call. When you select this option, your Call Forwarding settings will also be set to simultaneously ring your mobile number. Simultaneous ring allows Skype for Business (Lync) to call you back at your mobile number.

Caution: If you disable the simultaneous ring option after selecting this option (Cellular), you will not receive Skype for Business (Lync) calls over your mobile number regardless of whether you have a Wi-Fi or cellular data connection.

Also, if you use Skype for Business (Lync) on your Windows Phone but don't log in, you can still join meetings anonymously—just not using the Cellular option.

Require Wi-Fi for Video or Meeting Content

For more information about these settings, go to Adjust your data use settings.

Mobile Number

Tap Mobile phone number and enter your mobile phone number with country/region codes. When Skype for Business (Lync) can’t use Wi-Fi or cellular data network to make an audio or video call, Skype for Business (Lync) will call you back at this number to connect you to the audio portion of the Skype for Business (Lync) call.

Push Notifications

Push notifications let you know about a new or missed audio or video call, instant message, or alert when you’re signed in to Skype for Business (Lync) but aren’t active on your mobile device. To turn on push notifications, set the Push notifications setting to On.

Photos

To show your photo and view the photo of other contacts on your mobile device, set the Show photos setting to On.

Phonebook Access

To allow Skype for Business (Lync) to access your mobile phone contacts using search, set the Phonebook setting to On.

Exchange

The Exchange screen is where you go if you need to modify the settings that tell Skype for Business (Lync) how to connect to the servers that support meetings and voicemail.

Important:  Normally there is no need to change these settings. Don’t turn off Use Skype for Business (Lync) Credentials or Auto-Detect Server unless your support team directs you to do so and gives you the correct values to enter.

If you are directed to change your Exchange Server credentials:

  1. Move Use Skype for Business (Lync) Credentials to Off.

  2. Tap the appropriate fields and enter your user name, email address, and password, then close the screen.

If you are directed to turn off the Auto-Detect Server function:

  1. Move Auto-Detect Server to Off.

  2. Tap the empty field and enter the fully qualified domain name (FQDN) or URL of your Exchange Web Server, exactly as it was given to you by your support team. Then close the screen.

HTTP Proxy

HTTP Proxy information may be required if you’re connected to a Wi-Fi network that requires proxy information. If you don’t configure the proxy information, you’ll be able to sign in and also sent an IM or call users who are connected to the same Wi-Fi network. But for any other activity, you’ll need to specify the proxy information in Settings. The app can’t discover the proxy from your phone Settings, so you’ll need to add the proxy information specifically in the Skype for Business (Lync) app settings. To add proxy information, do this:

  1. At the bottom, tap the More (…) icon, and then tap Settings.

  2. Tap HTTP Proxy, on the HTTP Proxy screen type your Wi-Fi proxy information, and then tap Set Proxy.

If you don’t know the proxy information, contact your technical support team.

TTY

Text telephone (TTY) mode is used to send text over a telephone line. A TTY device must be connected to the Windows Phone to interpret the modified audio. Otherwise you might experience poor audio quality. Using TTY mode in a conference call might also cause audio quality issues.

  • By default, TTY is turned off. Tap On to turn it on.

High contrast theme

If you use your phone’s general settings to select the high contrast theme, Skype for Business (Lync) will also display in high contrast. High contrast increases the contrast between text and background, which can make the screen easier to read and navigate. To turn it on:

  1. In the App list, tap Settings > Ease of access.

  2. Turn High contrast on.

Screen magnifier

When you turn on your phone’s screen magnifier, you can use gestures to enlarge any page you’re viewing, including Skype for Business (Lync) pages. To turn it on:

  1. In the App list, tap Settings > Ease of access.

  2. Turn Screen magnifier on.

  3. On any page you want to magnify, do either of the following:

  4. To zoom in the maximum amount, double-tap the screen with two fingers.

  5. To change the magnification, use two fingers to double-tap and hold, then pan up or down to increase or decrease magnification.

Logging

Logs are used by system administrators to collect, analyze, and save data. A system administrator might ask you to turn on logging to do troubleshooting. If you’re not asked, you don’t need to be concerned with this option.

  • To turn on Diagnostic Logging, set Diagnostic Logging to On.

Help us improve Skype for Business (Lync)

If your organization has turned on this feature, you can decide to take part in the Microsoft Customer Experience Improvement Program (CEIP). When you participate, your Windows Phone will automatically send basic, anonymous information to Microsoft about how you use your programs and devices, the types and number of errors you encounter, and the speed of services. This information is combined with other CEIP data to help Microsoft solve problems and improve the products and features that customers use most often. Microsoft does not collect your name, address, or other contact information.

Your participation in the CEIP is off by default. If you want to take part, tap Settings > Help us improve Skype for Business (Lync) and move Customer Experience Improvement Program to On.

Upload Sign-in Logs

The Sign-in Error Reporting feature automatically generates an error report when you can’t sign in to Skype for Business (Lync).

From the Settings screen, you can select when to upload a sign-in error report to Microsoft.

  1. At the bottom, tap the More (…) icon, and then tap Settings.

  2. Tap Upload Sign-in Logs, on the next screen to select when you’d like to upload sign-in error logs.
