Set up email in the Outlook for Android app

Stay in touch with friends, family, and coworkers using the Outlook for Android mobile app. Send and receive email, manage your calendar, and much more. If your Android mobile device is incompatible with the Outlook mobile app, you can also Set up email in the built-in Android email app. If you're experiencing sync issues, try troubleshooting email setup on mobile.

If you haven't already, download and install the mobile app from the Google Play Store.

Set up email in Outlook for Android

To use the Outlook for Android mobile app, choose your email provider here:

  1. Open Outlook for Android on your device. Tap Settings > Add Account > Add Email Account.

  2. On the Add Email Account page, enter your email address and tap Add Account.

    Note: In most cases, Outlook will be able to automatically detect your email provider and configure your account for you. If you're prompted to choose your account type, choose Outlook.com from the icons shown. If you are not sure who your email provider is, see Troubleshoot email setup on mobile.

  3. Enter your password and sign in to connect your account.

    If you are prompted to enter additional details such as server settings, make sure the following are set:

    • Username: Your full email address.

    • Password: Your email account password.

    • Server/Host: Use s.outlook.com.

  4. Outlook for Android may request access to info like your calendar and contacts. Tap Yesto grant these permissions. If your organization has set up security policies for you, tap Activate.

You are now ready to use Outlook for Android!

Set up Office 365 email in Outlook for Android
  1. Open Outlook for Android on your device. Tap Settings > Add Account > Add Email Account.

  2. On the Add Email Account page, enter your email address and tap Add Account.

    Note: In most cases, Outlook will be able to automatically detect your email provider and configure your account for you. If you're prompted to choose your account type, choose Office 365 from the icons shown. If you are not sure who your email provider is, see Troubleshoot email setup on mobile.

  3. Enter your password and sign in to connect your account.

    If you are prompted to enter additional details such as server settings, make sure the following are set:

    • Username: Your full email address.

    • Password: Your email account password.

    • Server/Host: Use outlook.office365.com.

  4. Outlook for Android may request access to info like your calendar and contacts. Tap Yes or Allow to grant these permissions. If your organization has set up security policies for you, tap Activate.

You are now ready to use Outlook for Android!

Set up Exchange email in Outlook for Android
  1. Open Outlook for Android on your device. Tap Settings > Add Account > Add Email Account.

  2. On the Add Email Account page, enter your email address and tap Add Account.

    Note: In most cases, Outlook will be able to automatically detect your email provider and configure your account for you. If you're prompted to choose your account type, choose Exchange from the icons shown. If you are not sure who your email provider is, see Troubleshoot email setup on mobile.

  3. Enter your password and sign in to connect your account. You may also be asked to enter a name and description of your account.

  4. If you are prompted to enter additional details such as server settings, you will need to find email server settings from your provider or ask your organization's system administrator.

    You can also see POP and IMAP settings for Office 365 and go to the section titled "POP and IMAP settings for Exchange-based email" for helpful tips.

    Note: If you choose to set up your email using IMAP or POP, your calendar will not sync. What are IMAP and POP?

  5. Outlook for Android may request access to info like your calendar and contacts. Tap Yes or Allow to grant these permissions. If your organization has set up security policies for you, tap Activate.

You are now ready to use Outlook for Android!

Set up Yahoo! Mail in Outlook for Android
  1. Open Outlook for Android on your device. Tap Settings > Add Account > Add Email Account.

  2. On the Add Email Account page, enter your email address and tap Add Account. Tap Next.

    Note: In most cases, Outlook will be able to automatically detect your email provider and configure your account for you. If you're prompted to choose your account type, choose Yahoo! Mail from the icons shown.

  3. Enter your password and tap Sign in to connect your account. You may also be asked to enter a name and description of your account.

  4. If you're prompted to enter additional server settings, you can find your Yahoo! IMAP server settings here or Yahoo! POP server settings here.

    Note: If you choose to set up your email using IMAP or POP, your calendar will not sync. What are IMAP and POP?

  5. Outlook for Android may request access to info like your calendar and contacts. Tap Yes or Allow to grant these permissions. If your organization has set up security policies for you, tap Activate.

You are now ready to use Outlook for Android!

Set up Gmail in Outlook for Android
  1. Open Outlook for Android on your device. Tap Settings > Add Account > Add Email Account.

  2. On the Add Email Account page, enter your email address and tap Add Account. Tap Next.

    Note: In most cases, Outlook will be able to automatically detect your email provider and configure your account for you. If you're prompted to choose your account type, choose Google from the icons shown.

  3. Enter your password and tap Sign in to connect your account. You may also be asked to enter a name and description of your account.

  4. If you're prompted to enter additional server settings, you can find your Gmail IMAP and POP settings here.

    Note: If you choose to set up your email using IMAP or POP, your calendar will not sync. What are IMAP and POP?

  5. Outlook for Android may request access to info like your calendar and contacts. Tap Yes or Allow to grant these permissions. If your organization has set up security policies for you, tap Activate.

You are now ready to use Outlook for Android!

If you choose to set up your email using IMAP or POP, only your email will sync, not calendar or contacts. The Outlook mobile app currently doesn't support POP accounts, however a workaround is available. Please see Set up a POP email account in Outlook for iOS or Android.

  1. Open Outlook for Android on your device. Tap Settings > Add Account > Add Email Account.

  2. On the Add Email Account page, enter your email address and tap Add Account.

    Note: In most cases, Outlook will be able to automatically detect your email provider and configure your account for you. If you're prompted to choose your account type, choose IMAP from the icons shown.

  3. Enter your password and tap Sign in to connect your account. You may also be asked to enter a name and description of your account.

  4. If you're prompted to enter additional server settings, you'll need to request email server settings from your email provider or talk to your administrator if you have one.

Begin using Outlook for Android

You can learn how to complete other set up functions for Outlook here:

  1. Open Outlook for Android. Go to Settings.

  2. Tap on the email account you want to delete.

  3. Tap Delete Account.

  1. Open Outlook for Android. Go to Settings.

  2. Tap on the email account you want to add an alias to.

  3. Tap Advanced Settings > Add Alias.

  4. Enter your email address alias and tap Done on the keyboard.

To change your password you must access your email from your provider's website. For example, if you use a @hotmail.com email account, sign into login.live.com and access your settings to change them.

Outlook for Android will detect a sync error and will ask you to enter your password again. You can also delete and re-add your account if you prefer.

Note: If you change the password for your email account that is also your Microsoft account, you may need to login again on other Microsoft applications and websites.
