Set up email in the Outlook for Android app

Open Outlook for Android. The icon looks like this:

If you haven't already, you can download Outlook for Android from the Google Play Store.

Tap Get Started if it's your first time.

Or, go to Settings > Add Account > Add Email Account.

Go to Settings

Select Add Account

Enter your full email address, then tap Continue.

Note: If you're asked to select your email provider, you may have to Set up manually or set up an IMAP or POP account.

Enter your email address.

Enter your email account password and tap Sign In or Next.

Note: The sign in screen may look different for you depending on your email provider.

Enter your password for your email account.

If you have 2-step verification turned on, identify yourself using the method you chose (6 digit code, phone, or using the Microsoft Authenticator app.

Note: Are you being prompted to set up two-step verification? See Set up 2-step verification for Office 365 or use the Microsoft Authenticator app for easy verification.

Outlook may request permission to access your calendar, contacts, etc. Tap Yes or Allow.

You're now ready to use Outlook for Android!

Need help using Outlook for Android?

If you want to set up an IMAP email account, or Outlook for Android didn't automatically detect your settings, use these instructions . When you set up an email account manually using IMAP, only your email will sync--not calendar or contacts. What is IMAP and POP?

To set up a POP account, see Set up a POP email account in Outlook for iOS or Android.

Set up IMAP account in Outlook for Android

  1. In Outlook for Android, go to Settings > Add Account > Add Email Account.

  2. Enter email address. Tap Continue.

  3. Enter your password and any additional server settings you may need. Tap Sign In.

    Note: If you don't already know this info, you'll need to get it from your email provider or administrator. For a list of common server settings and reference help, see Server settings you'll need from your email provider.

  1. In Outlook for Android, go to Settings > Add Account > Add Email Account.

  2. Enter email address. Tap Continue. You may be prompted to choose your email provider. Choose Exchange.

  3. Enter your password and any additional server settings you may need. Tap Sign In.

    For server settings, set the following if available:

    Incoming Server Settings

    • Domain\Username
      Make sure your full email address appears. For example, yourname@outlook.com.

    • Password
      Use the password that you use to access your email.

    • Server

      • Enter eas.outlook.com for any email account ending with @outlook.com, @hotmail.com, @msn.com, or @live.com, including any other accounts hosted on Outlook.com.

      • Use outlook.office365.com for any work or school accounts hosted on Office 365 for business.

      Note: If you're setting up an Exchange-based account and you don't know the name of your Exchange Server, contact your administrator.

    • Port
      Use 443 or 993.

    • Security type
      Select SSL/TLS or make sure the Use secure connection (SSL) checkbox is checked, then tap Next.

    Outgoing SMTP Server Settings

    • SMTP Server

      • Use smtp-mail.outlook.com if you're using an Outlook.com account.

      • Use smtp.office365.com if you have an Office 365 for business account.

      • For Exchange email accounts, contact your email provider or system administrator.

    • Security Type
      Choose TLS.

    • Port Number
      Enter 587. Tap Next.

If your Android mobile device is incompatible with the Outlook mobile app, you can also Set up email in the built-in Android email app.

To change your password you must go to your email provider's website to change them.

  1. Go to your email provider's website.

    For example, if you use a @hotmail.com email account, sign into login.live.com or if you use Gmail, go to Gmail.com.

  2. Go to your account or profile settings.

  3. Change your password.

  4. Outlook for Android will detect a sync error and will ask you to enter your password again.

If you are having difficulty getting Outlook for Android to sync with your new password, delete your email account and then re-add it.

Note: If you change the password for your email account that is also your Microsoft account, you may need to login again on other Microsoft applications and websites.
