Scenario crossover template in Planning Business Modeler

When you provide appropriate placeholder substitutions, the Scenario Crossover templates, Crossover1 and Crossover2, create two associated business rules.

  • Crossover1 copies the information from a range of time in a source scenario to a destination scenario.

  • Crossover2 copies the information from a second source scenario to the same destination.

Typically, you use a Scenario Crossover rule to populate a new Forecast scenario. To seed the forecast, the rule can draw data from the Actual scenario, up to the current month. Then, to seed values for months after the current month, the forecast can use data from a prior Forecast or prior Budget scenario.

To create a crossover rule, you must create business rules from both the Crossover1 and Crossover2 templates, and then run the two rules together. To make sure that the rules are run together, group the Crossover rules in a single rule set, and then run the rule set instead of running individual rules. For information about how to create a rule set, see Creating a new rule set.

Implementation

Crossover rules use SQL implementation. To run a rule with SQL implementation, you can run the rule directly from PerformancePoint Planning Business Modeler , or include the rule as a part of a scheduled job. For more information, see SQL implementation.

Placeholder substitution requirements (Crossover1)

To convert the Crossover templates into business rules, you must substitute actual dimension values for the placeholders in the templates. For information about how to substitute values, see Filling a placeholder in a rule template.

The rule that you can create with a Crossover1 template populates the target scenario from the first source scenario. The span of time that you specify for this rule should pre-date the time that you specify for the rule that you create with the Crossover2 template.

Note:  The range of time that is specified for Crossover1 and the range of time that is specified for Crossover2 should not overlap.

The following table describes the placeholder substitutions that you must make to create a business rule from this template.

Placeholder

Description

<<[Time].[Hierarchy]…>>

Start date for the period being copied

<<[Time].[Hierarchy]…>>

End date for the period being copied

<<[Scenario].[Hierarchy]…>>

Target scenario that will be populated with copied data

<<AccountHier>>

Name of Account dimension MemberSet to be populated

<<[Scenario].[Hierarchy]…>>

First source scenario from which data will be copied

Placeholder substitution requirements (Crossover2)

The rule that you can create with the Crossover2 template, populates the target scenario from the second source scenario. The span of time that you specify for this rule should post-date the time that you specify for the rule that you create with the Crossover1 template.

Note:  The range of time that is specified for Crossover1 and the range of time that is specified for Crossover2 should not overlap.

The following table describes the placeholder substitutions that you must make to create a business rule from this template.
