In typical deployments, reporting requirements will be satisfied through a combination of PerformancePoint Planning Server functionality and other solutions. Planning Server provides some reporting functionality and can also be integrated into existing reporting solutions. It's important to evaluate your reporting requirements and identify the right tool to meet your reporting needs during the application planning process. Some examples of reporting functionality include ad-hoc reporting, standard financial reports, and published reports.
There are several options for using existing Planning Server reporting tools. For example, standard financial reports can be developed using PerformancePoint Add-in for Excel, which includes a guided wizard for standard reports and allows creation of ad-hoc reports. It is also possible to publish some of these reports to Microsoft SQL Server Reporting Services for "thin client" viewing. PerformancePoint Dashboard Designer functionality also provides scorecards, dashboards, and rich data analysis functionality.
PerformancePoint Add-in for Excel reports take data from one or more models in PerformancePoint Planning Business Modeler, but do not have editable fields. Additionally, each PerformancePoint Add-in for Excel user has data access permissions that determine which data he or she sees in a report.
As Planning Server is built on Microsoft SQL Server 2005 and integrates with Microsoft SharePoint, additional SQL Server data sources, such as SQL Server Reporting Services, Microsoft Excel, Excel Services, and SharePoint, can be used for additional reporting functionality.
