Reinstall Office 2013 after an Office 2016 upgrade using Office 365 for business

If you installed Office 2016 as part of your Office 365 for business subscription and you're experiencing specific compatibility issues with your Office 2016 upgrade, you can reinstall Office 2013, Visio 2013, or Project 2013.

The steps to reinstall Office 2013 depends if your copy of Office 2016 was installed using Click-to-Run or MSI. To check, follow these steps:

Check if Office was installed using Click-to-Run or MSI
  1. Open an Office 2016 application.

  2. On the File menu, select Account.

  3. For Office 2016 Click-to-Run installations, you'll have an Update Options button.

    MSI-based installations don't have an Update Options button. You'll only see the About <application name> button.

    Click-to-run installations have an Update Options button on the Account page. MSI-based installations don't have this button.
How to reinstall Office 2013 if your copy of Office 2016 was installed using Click-to-Run:
  1. Install Office 2013 following the steps in Install Office on your PC or Mac.

How to reinstall Office 2013 if your copy of Office 2016 was installed using MSI:
  1. Uninstall Office 2016 following the steps in Uninstall Office 2013, Office 2016, or Office 365 from a PC.

  2. Install Office 2013 following the steps in Install Office on your PC or Mac.

The steps to reinstall Project 2013 depends if your copy of Project 2016 was installed using Click-to-Run or MSI. To check, follow these steps:

  1. Open the Project 2016 application.

  2. On the File menu, select Account.

  3. For Project 2016 Click-to-Run installations, you'll have an Update Options button.
