Rearrange sections and pages in OneNote 2016 for Mac

In OneNote, the tabs that represent the pages and sections in your notebook are placed in order of their creation — each will appear behind or under the tab that precedes it. If you want to arrange your notebook in a more orderly way, you can freely drag the corresponding tabs of pages and sections where you want them to appear.

Rearrange section tabs in a notebook

Do any of the following:

  • Across the top of the current page, position any section tab in the order you want by dragging it to the left or to the right.

  • If you change your mind about a section tab you’ve moved, drag the tab back to its original location.

Tip: Rearranging section tabs helps to keep your notebook visually organized. If you want to move or copy the actual contents of sections to another location, see Move or copy notes in OneNote 2016 for Mac.

Do any of the following:

  • On the right side of the current page, position any page tab in the order you want by dragging it up or down in the list. As you drag, a blue bar between page tabs confirms where the dragged page tab will appear when you let go.

  • If you change your mind about a page tab that you’ve moved, drag the tab back to its original location or press Command-Z to undo the change.
