If you want to install and run more than one version of Office on the same PC, here are some tips to help you avoid most set up errors:
In most cases you can't run Office 2016 and Office 2013 on the same computer. The exception to this is if Office was installed using an MSI. See How to use Office 2013 suites and programs (MSI deployment) on a computer that’s running another version of Office.
In Office 2016, certain standalone Office 2013 applications can't run on the same computer, and if you try to install Office 2016 may see this error, "Stop, you should wait to install Office 2016". This can happen if you have a standalone 2013 app (such as Word 2013) installed on your computer, but a newer version of the app (Word 2016) is already included in the Office 2016 suite you're trying to install. In this case, the standalone version of Word 2013 will be removed.
However, if a standalone 2013 app (such as Project 2013) is installed on your computer and this app isn’t part of the Office 2016 suite you are trying to install, then the 2016 suite will successfully install, leaving Project 2013 also installed on the machine.
Install earlier versions of Office first. For example, install Office 2010 before installing Office 2016 (or Office 2013).
Make sure all versions of Office are either 32-bit or 64-bit. You can’t have a mix of both.
Keep in mind that even if you follow these recommendations, you might still run into issues when you use two versions of Office on the same PC. If you decide not to keep both versions and you uninstall the earlier version, you might need to repair the version remaining to make sure that the file associations will work correctly.
