Highlight some text

There’s some text you want to highlight on your slide but you can’t find the highlight button. That’s because it’s not there. However, there’s a way you can replicate the highlighted text effect.

  1. Type the text.

  2. On the Insert tab, click the rectangle shape and then click the slide to insert it.

  3. With the shape selected, on the Drawing Tools, Format tab, click Shape Fill, and then pick a highlight color.

  1. With the shape still selected, on the Drawing Tools, Format tab, click Shape Outline, and then click No Outline.

  1. Click the shape until you see a four-headed arrow, and then drag the shape over the top of text you want to highlight.

Tip:  You may need to adjust the size of the shape to cover the text.

  1. Right-click the shape, point to Send to Back, and then click Send to Back.

Tip:  If you try to move things after sending the rectangle to the back, you’ll move the entire text box. I you don’t want to move the text box, click Undo until the highlight rectangle is back on top, position it exactly where you want it, then click Send to Back.
