Enter employee time sheets

Use employee time sheets to track time and costs spent on work for a customer and to track employee hours for payroll.

Any user with access other than read-only can enter time records for any employee on a daily (Time Entry) or weekly (Timesheet) basis.

Note: If you use both Microsoft Office Accounting 2008 and Microsoft Office Outlook with Business Contact Manager, you can create a Time Entry from an appointment, a phone log or a task.

Track employee time by day

  1. In the Navigation Pane, click Employees.

  2. Under Start a Task, click New Time Entry.

  3. Enter the information on the Time Entry form.

  4. Do one of the following:

    • On the toolbar, click Save and Close.

    • To save the Time Entry and enter another Time Entry, click Save and New.

Enter employee time by week

Accounting 2008 tracks employee time by day, even if you enter the time entry on a weekly Timesheet. The Timesheet shows the days of the workweek, starting with the day specified in the Preferences dialog box.

Change start day

  1. On the Company menu, click Preferences and then click the Employees tab.

  2. Click the First day of the week in timesheet arrow and then select a day from the list.

  3. Click OK.

Print a blank Timesheet

You can print a weekly Timesheet and have your employees record their hours worked for the week.

  1. In the Navigation Pane, click Employees.

  2. Under Start a Task, click New Timesheet.

  3. On the Actions menu, click Print Blank Timesheet.

  4. Follow the instructions in the Print dialog box.

  5. Click OK.

  6. To exit, click Close on the File menu.

Record employee time on a Timesheet

  1. In the Navigation Pane, click Employees.

  2. Under Start a Task, click New Timesheet.

  3. On the Timesheet, click the arrow next to the Employee name field and then select a name from the list.

  4. Do one of the following:

    • Enter the time information on the Timesheet.

    • To reuse a Timesheet for the same employee covering the previous week, click Copy Last Week on the toolbar. Double-check the copied information before you continue.

      Your entries on the Timesheet are saved automatically when you fill in a field and move to the next field on the form.

  5. Do one of the following:

    • On the toolbar, click Save and Close.

    • To save the Timesheet and enter another Timesheet, click Save and New.
