Office files attached in Yammer conversations or groups can be previewed or edited directly from Yammer. Open a full-screen preview, or edit using Office Online, right from the conversation or the Files list.
Note: Because the Yammer preview and edit function uses Office Online, it works only when the attached files are file types compatible with Office Online - Word documents, Excel spreadsheets or PowerPoint presentations. You can preview PDF files in Yammer, but editing is not available. The Yammer preview and edit function isn't available yet for OneNote.
Preview an attached file
From a conversation: In the box containing the attached file, click Preview.
From a group's Files list: Find the file that you want to preview, click the arrow under Last Uploaded On and click Preview.
The attached file opens as a full-screen preview using the Office Online version of the program that created it - for example, a Word document opens with Word Online.
Tips: When you open an attached file from a conversation, the preview also shows the conversation. You can add to the conversation here as you refer to the preview.
You can't edit the file in the preview screen, but below the document you can click Edit File. The file opens in a new tab, where you can edit using Office Online.
To close the preview, click the X at the top of the preview.
Edit an attached file
From a conversation: In the box containing the attached file, click Go to File.
From a group's Files list: Click the name of the file that you want to edit.
The File page opens, showing the attached file in a preview window. It can be read there, but not edited.
On the File page, to the right of the preview window, click Edit File.
The attached file opens in a new browser tab, using the Office Online version of the program that created it - for example, a Word document opens in Word Online.
Make the changes that you want, directly in the file.
Tips: Working in Office Online is very much like Office on the desktop. For tips and help working in Office Online apps:
To stop editing, close the tab on your browser. Your changes are automatically saved to the attached file.
Tip: On the File page, to check that your changes are in the file, refresh your browser and look in the file preview window.
