Customize user permissions in a business role in Planning Business Modeler

Customized user permissions are security permissions that are specifically assigned to users in a particular role. To customize permissions for users in a business role, you must be a User Administrator in PerformancePoint Planning Business Modeler .

Important: Before you can customize user permissions, a Modeler or Data Administrator must first enable customized user permissions for a member set in Planning Business Modeler.

Customized user permissions cannot exceed the permissions that are configured for a role. For example, if a role has READ-only access to a member set, you can only remove READ access for users who belong to the role. You cannot add WRITE access, or add access to model data that is not available to the role.

To modify user permissions for a business role:

  1. In the Workspace Browser pane, click Security and Roles.

  2. In the Security and Roles workspace, select Business Roles Only from the View drop-down list.

  3. In the list of role names, click the name of the role whose user permissions you want to customize. The Summary page of the role workspace opens.

  4. In the role workspace, click the Users tab. The Users page displays two panes: a list of the users who belong to the selected role, and a list of member sets for which you can customize access.

More about member set access values

The member set list displays a summary of information about each member set. This includes READ access and WRITE access permissions for a selected user. The following table describes the possible values that you can use to configure READ and WRITE access.

    Access value

    Description

    All (default)

The selected user has READ and WRITE access to all members in the member set.

    None

The user has no READ or WRITE access to any member in the member set.

    Custom

The user has permissions that are configured for individual members in the member set.

  5. Select the name of the user whose permissions you want to customize.

  6. Select the member set whose permissions you want to configure for the selected user.

    • Configure READ access for a selected user to the selected member set.     Begin by locating the Members: READ section in the Edit User Permissions panel of the Workspace Actions pane. Then, take these steps:

      1. Click the Edit button to open the Change READ Permissions for User dialog box.

      2. In the Available members column of the dialog box, enable READ access by selecting the check box next to a member name. Deny READ access by clearing the check box next to a member name.

    • Configure WRITE access for a selected user to the selected member set.     Begin by locating the Members: WRITE section in the Edit User Permissions panel of the Workspace Actions pane. Then, take these steps:

      1. Click the Edit button to open the Change WRITE Permissions for User dialog box.

      2. In the Available members column of the dialog box, enable WRITE access by selecting the check box next to a member name. Deny WRITE access by clearing the check box next to a member name.

    • Modify the list of available members.

      1. To change the list of members, or to locate members by searching for member properties, use the Add, Remove, or Find buttons.

      2. To add or remove descendants of a listed member, right-click the member name to open the shortcut menu. This feature offers you a dynamic, rather than explicit, set of member selections. You might have to clear check boxes for members that belong to a set before the menu command becomes available.

After you select or clear members appropriately, click OK.

  7. On the File menu, click Save Model Site to save your changes to Planning Server.
