Control text wrapping around objects in Word 2016 for Mac

Configure how text in a document wraps around a table, a picture, or a drawing object.

What do you want to do?

Configure text wrapping around a table

  1. Control + Click the table, and then click Table Properties.

    If you don't see Table Properties on the shortcut menu, Control + Click in a different part of the table.

  2. In Table Properties, under Text Wrapping, click Around.

    Click Around to have text wrap around the selected table.
  3. To change the distance of the table from surrounding text, click Positioning, and then in Table Positioning, set measurements under Distance from Surrounding Text.

    Set the space between the selected table and body text under Distance from surrounding text.

Configure text wrapping around a picture or drawing object

  1. Select the picture or object.

  2. On the Picture Format tab, click Arrange, and then click Wrap Text.

    Click Wrap Text to select how text wraps around a picture or drawing object.

    If the window is wide enough, Word displays Wrap Text directly on the Picture Format tab.

  3. Click the wrapping options that you want to apply.

    For example, In Line with Text, Top and Bottom, and Behind Text.

Change the position of a picture or drawing object relative to the text

  1. Select the picture or drawing object.

  2. On the Picture Format tab, click Arrange, and then click Position.

    Click Position to set the position of the table relative to the surrounding text.

    If the window is wide enough, Word displays Position directly on the Picture Format tab.

  3. On the Position menu, click the type of positioning that you want, or click More Layout Options to choose advanced layout options.

    On the Position menu, select the position for the selected picture or drawing object relative to the surrounding text.
