Change the width of cell borders

Excel applies a default thin line style when you add an outer cell border or gridlines. If you want to change it, here's how you can pick another preset border width:

  1. Select the cell border that you want to change.

  2. Right-click the selected cells and pick Format Cells.

  3. Click Border.

  4. For a continuous line, pick one of these styles.

  5. Under Presets, click your existing border type.

Check your new border width in the preview diagram. If it's not the way you want it to appear, pick another line style.

  6. Click OK.
